So, I was cleaning up my e-mails and found this gem of a tip from back in the day when I imposed health advice on my friends.
This particular excerpt is to the tune of Kesha’s “Tik Tok”:
Wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy
Grab my thermos, I’m out the door
I’m gonna hit this city.
Before I leave, squeeze a lemon in a bottle of tap
‘Cause when I lose all this weight, it ain’t
In a bit more detail, warm water with juice of 1/2 a lemon is a great start to your day of clean eating. Here’s some info I found on it:
– Lemons are high in pectin fibre which helps fight hunger cravings and keeps you regular;
– People who maintain a more alkaline diet lose weight faster;
– Hot/warm water provides less of a shock or stress factor to the body so early in the day;
– And the list goes on!
It is suggested to drink warm lemon water within 10 minutes of waking up and an hour before breakfast. I put hot water in a thermos the night before and when I wake up, I just add the lemon juice in and drink up. You can also drink this before every meal to help control your appetite.
On a side note, lemons always remind me of my kind, Zimbabwean friend. We went out for dinner once and he asked the waitress for a bowl of lemons which I found really odd. He proceeded to suck the sour out of all those lemons and we’re not talking two or three here either. He later explained that he was once very overweight and he found that lemons have helped him suppress his hunger before a meal. A tad extreme but whoever said moderation is key did not know about the miracles of a lemon. That’s sarcasm by the way. Anyway, he has moved away since then and we unfortunately lost touch; however, he has left me with this memory that never fails to make me smile.
